Adam Thomas Hughes: The Long Way Home
Adam Thomas Hughes, the young singer-songwriter from Newton-le-Willows who is making a big noise with backing from the likes of The K’s and Alex Spencer, draws on influences including Sam Fender and The 1975 for his hotly-anticipated debut single “The Long Way Home”, which is released on 16 August.
The 18-year-old has been getting rave reviews for his live shows across Merseyside and the Northwest since he started gigging in 2023.
“The Long Way Home” is his first self-penned tune and gets a massive ovation every time it features in his live set.
Adam Thomas Hughes is the newest name to emerge from a local music scene in the Newton, Leigh, Lowton and Wigan area that is having a huge 2024. Local heroes The K’s are smashing it at festivals all across Europe this year, as are The Lottery Winners, from neighbouring Leigh. Wigan bands The Stanleys and The Lathums are both from the same area of the UK.
Most recently, Adam received glowing reviews on the same bill as The K’s, The Lottery Winners and Wigan’s The Rolling People in early August, playing “The Long Way Home” in front of 3,000 ecstatic fans at Newton Music Festival.
“The Long Way Home” is a perfect slice of indie pop. The lyrics explain the feelings every boy has had when the girl he loves chooses a different direction and the whole tune is driven by a power pop combo of Adam on guitar and vocals, Will Crump on bass, backing vocals and lead guitar and Dan Bretherton on drums.
It was recorded at Dusk till Dawn studios by Luke Owens, the well-known Manchester-based producer and sound engineer who has worked with SHADE, The Notion, The Haciendas and Two of the Same.
