Andrea Bignasca: "Where Things Grow Mean"
Swiss rocker Andrea Bignasca scores again with his just released latest single “Where Things Grow Mean”.
As explained by the artist himself, “The song portrays the struggle of keeping love alive, the rancor permeating its death while being painfully aware of the self-hurt imposed by the same rancor. Flashbacks of love’s birth render the struggle even more brutal but also hopeful: how can it be that this is dying?
The lover is speechless in the past, unable to convey his feelings, letting songs speak for him, and speechless in the present, at love’s funeral, unable to give voice to the hurt.
This almost Blakean development omits nevertheless the shift from Songs of Innocence to those of Experience, merely depicting the two states at the same time. I always wrote songs like this. But for the first time I felt like not being afraid of sounding ‘too poppy’, ‘too catchy’, I feel I was able to imbue it with a ‘rock-elegance’ nonetheless. You might hear more like this.”
While intellectually that is some pretty deep shit to think through at the same time it’s refreshing in an era dominated by so much fakery and pulp that there are still authentic rockers out there who lay it all out on the line combining thoughtful lyrics with raw passion.
