Christophe Darbouze x Basil Panagop: Mike Jaqueline
Basil Panagop is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and clothing designer. The multifaceted artist’s debut offering La La Land was a beautiful collection of songs all centered around a common theme of nostalgia. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, Basil moved to Glasgow to pursue a career in music. Inspired by the city’s sprawling urban landscape and brutalist architecture, the young artist formulated the ideas that would eventually become his debut solo project. Growing up listening to an array of music ranging from Annie Lennox to Outkast, Basil pulls threads from this diverse collection in order to build a rich tapestry of his own.
Christophe Darbouze is a Brooklyn-born pianist and producer. Having been a touring musician, Christophe is now aspiring to create his own sound. Drawing heavily on the influences of jazz, disco, and pop, Christophe has stepped up to gradually shift towards a role as producer and composer. Christophe's solo work is born out of experiences in and out of the club, shaped by the people, and the dynamics which he chooses to express through dance music.
Both being based in Berlin, the two met through sheer circumstance and joined forces to create a set of singles. Together, the artists create a symbiosis of sound that blends both of their innovative musical backgrounds. While drawing from the roots of jazz, house, and r&b, the duo was able to develop a sound that is distinctly their own.
“Mike Jaqueline” is a pop journey guided by years of acquiring a taste for funk and soul. The song leans into it’s dance roots through Christophe’s production, while Basil’s lyrical context and unmistakable vocals provide the perfect texture to complete the track.
