Jennifer Harper: Change Is Coming

"It was always my dream as a kid to use my music as a message, to have meaning and to stand for what I believe"

Jennifer Harpers music evokes a 1970s flower-child spirit with a fresh layer of uplifting pop. With her rich voice and intimate lyrics, it's easy to fall in love with her contemplative, assured artistry. Raised in Washington D.C., piano enchanted the artist from a young age. She studied classical piano and later taught herself songs she heard on Simon & Garfunkel, CSNY, and Joni Mitchell records her older sisters owned. "I saw how music was motivating change," Harper said. And she wanted in.

Taking the plunge by moving to New York, she attended Barnard College. Kismet happened when she linked up with her mentor, legendary A&R rep Roquel "Billy" Davis.

Harper has performed throughout the NYC area in popular venues including Rockwood Music Hall, The Cutting Room and The Bitter End. She guested on local radio stations such as 100.7 FM WHUD and performed on the morning show "CT Style". She also played at Jammin' Java in Vienna, The Mint in Los Angeles. and co-headlined with Rachael Sage at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. Media outlets including No Depression, Buzzfeed and Songwriting Magazine took a liking to Harper and her sound. Her song "Little White Lies" was a semifinalist in The International Songwriting Competition in two categories.

She’s back now with a new single and video “Change Is Coming” about the uplifting feeling of women in sisterhood and the magic this is weaving on the planet. She wanted to bring hope while creating a beautiful legacy that marked this time of personal change in her life.

“Written during the height of the pandemic while in a songwriting circle and global spiritual women's circles online. A songwriting prompt to use an instrument never written on before led me to a mini djembe my children once used. Feeling into the energy and recurring themes of the sisterhoods - the song came through. The recording captures a primal feeling with drums from around the world, softened by a Kora. Multiple women's voices represent the sisterhood. Recorded in LA. “

The video was a collaborative effort with submissions from medicine women, healers, and personal friends of Jennifer's from around the world who played a part in her spiritual journey during the pandemic. Her mother and daughter also make appearances, representing generations of women.
