Jozsef James: "I Am Human"
“I’m not ashamed of being an unabashed fan of a really killer, hook driven, guitar laced, sing-along loud-with-the-chorus song that will make you dance” says Australian native, Jozsef James, who for the last 10 years has called Los Angeles, California home.
After releasing two independent EP’s (2015 and 2018) and being cast to play the late INXS front man Michael Hutchence in the biopic rockumentary ‘Michael: The Last Rockstar’, it was time for Jozsef to commence work on his third independent release.
Teaming up again with L.A based producer Danny Saber (David Bowie, Rolling Stones, Madonna), Jozsef dove into his treasure trove of demos and lyrics from his home studio where he creates his songs before they get into the hands of his producers. “I’m a songwriter first, creating is what I love to do. Ever since I was five years old when I first saw INXS on TV back home in Australia I knew I wanted to become a musician”.
In 2009, Jozsef made his way to Los Angeles with his band ‘MojoRising’ and after disbanding in 2010 along with the death of two people close to him, he took time off to decide on his future in songwriting or to pursue a solo career. ‘I took a couple years off and had really bad writers block. I almost gave up on pursuing music. I was lost. It wasn’t until 2015 when I overcame that writers block and wrote, recorded and produced my first ever solo EP ‘Keys To The City’ in a studio I built myself in Venice Beach. I literally wrote myself out of depression with that EP. It was very cathartic. I was performing shows in LA to promote that EP and that’s where I met producer Danny Saber. He came to one of my shows and the rest is history’.
With influences as far and wide as Marvin Gaye, Talking Heads and Jamiroquai, it is best to describe Jozsef James as: Imagine if Michael Hutchence started a band with Prince and Peter Gabriel.
‘Music is for me, selfishly. I’m not going to make music that is the latest trend, nor do I want to. I make music for myself and if people can align with it, then that’s kismet. I’ve always gone against the grain which would probably upset a record label, hence why I am independent and doing things on my own terms’.
Fast forward to 2019, after a successful Go Fund Me campaign (thanks to an extremely loyal and supportive fan base which Jozsef is extremely thankful for) to fund his latest recording, Jozsef James has just released his new single ‘i Am Human’ which is a crunchy guitar rock/pop anthem, infused with sultry vocals and lyrical attitude discussing the modern ‘swipe left’ relationship culture and lack of connection we humans somehow draw ourselves to.
