Yoko Gold: Limbo

Yoko Gold: Limbo

Sometimes the biggest enemy you have is yourself.

Hailing from the vibrant musical city affectionately called The 6 by its denizens, Toronto artist Yoko Gold has had the rare distinction of tasting immediate success with his debut performance.

With his conscious lyricism, ethereal vocals, and ability to inspire, he immediately turned heads with his performance on Tory Lanez’s single “Collection,” off Lanez’s “Sorry 4 What” album. However, even considering Gold’s vast artistic potential, the most powerful indication of his firmly starwards trajectory is his propensity for evolution. With his gaze set toward the future, Gold’s path to stardom seems like it’s already well on its way with his debut release, "Limbo"

Featuring crisp snares, introspective guitar riffs, and Gold’s smooth vocals, on “Limbo,” Gold sings and raps with a conviction that belies the very ethos he’s built his artistic identity on. He’s vulnerable at times but also sharp, dropping lines like “There’s no promise that I’ll make it out, but I’m not afraid / zero dollars in my bank account, but I’ll be okay.”

With an easy cadence that manages to walk the thin line between the two. “Limbo” feels like an intimate release. Still, other lines like “Don’t trust too many people gotta protect my energy / I look into the mirror see my own worst enemy” detail some of the weight of Gold’s artistic aspirations. It’s a stellar release, and on “Limbo,” Gold proves that he can more than just hold his own weight on solo releases.

Yoko Gold’s new release, “Limbo,” is an introspective and intimate offering that chronicles the difficulty of being your own worst enemy. As he struggles to break out of old habits that keep him in a state of limbo, Gold nonetheless seems to move closer to his dreams with this release.
