Annie Taylor: Inner Smile
Annie Taylor, a band with a unique blend of grungy, self-destructive '90s music, alternative rock and psychedelic sounds, released its second album, "Inner Smile," on July 7. The songs delve into a wide range of human emotions and emphasize the importance of discovering acceptance and inner peace, even in the most difficult moments.
The band had an intense and fulfilling experience during the recording process for the album. They worked with producer Ali Chant, known for his work with renowned artists* such as PJ Harvey and Yard Act. The recording took place at The Playpen, a studio in Bristol, UK, where they recorded the record over a two-week period.
Singer Gini describes the time as follows: "Working with Ali was an extraordinary journey. He really understood the sonic direction we wanted to pursue and helped us realize our vision. We spent countless long hours in the studio meticulously defining and exploring guitar sounds." It was a challenging but rewarding process, he says, and the entire crew is absolutely thrilled with the final product.
The lead singer adds, "We have different musical backgrounds, but we all share a deep passion for creating music that truly touches our audience. With Inner Smile, our goal was to create an album that highlights these different aspects."
Annie Taylor has absolutely succeeded in this on their second album. The Zurich-based group around the charismatic frontwoman offers a light-hearted mixture of grunge and fresh rock and spreads an infectious atmosphere with their undeniably energetic live shows. Gigwise, one of England's leading music magazines, describes Annie Taylor as "mellow, cool guitar romp through desert rock, shoegaze, indie and pop influences. Lush." And it's easy to see why.
The band's four members - Gini Jungi, Tobias Arn, Michael Mutter and Daniel Bachmann - have embarked on an exciting adventure with their label Taxi Gauche Records. Since their 2020 debut album "Sweet Mortality" - a record that blends pop, psychedelia and grunge into a beautiful centerpiece - Annie Taylor has evolved from performing in poorly equipped venues to supporting the likes of Wolf Alice and Skunk Anansie. The band's success has led to numerous festival invitations, including MTV Music Week, Reeperbahn Festival, Zurich Openair and Montreux Jazz Festival. The quartet also toured the UK, Germany and Switzerland. The press drew comparisons to the early work of Hole, Wolf Alice and Warpaint.
