Brandon Saxon: "Star Star Child"
Brandon Saxon started getting intrigued by music at a young age, when he listened to his cousin play his first drum set. He learned the classic AC/DC rock drum beat and had felt as if time had stopped and became lost in the syncopation and rhythms of music for the first time in his life. This led him to ask his mom for a drum set …. But he got a guitar instead. The reason being “drums were too loud", So, a guitar seemed more reasonable to his mom.
Brandon’s first release is a single titled “Star Star Child”. A few years ago he returned home to the state of New Jersey after a vagabond journey across the country. He was full of artistic inspiration and freedom. He had moved in with a friend and that's where he was introduced to a lyricist Maria (not knowing she wrote lyrics at the time) while he picked up an acoustic guitar and started playing a little something. Maria asked, “What is that?” and he said, “it's something i wrote.” Brandon explained “It was this introduction that started our working together and so began this effortless wave of songwriting… We channeled this energy so naturally… the stars had aligned, and our first song “Star Star Child” was created within an hour.”
The song tells a story of star gazing, love, and triggers a visual representation of your imagination when looking up at to the sky's. It's when we have our most touching moments.
Brandon plays the guitar, drums, and piano and his signature style is acoustic indie filled with guitar riffs, common chords with a twist, and blues turn-arounds. “I am fascinated with producing music, it's the best feeling in the world to get lost in expression, capture it on a recording, and then go out to your car to listen to it! “
He records everything onto his macbook with a couple mics recording guitar parts first. “Once I lay down a take that works, I’ll track my vocals. I like to sing the same thing twice to double my vocal… then build harmonies. Usually the quicker you work the better, it's all about the vibe. 9 times out of 10 the best takes are the first ones, you really have to know when to call it good… there has to be a balance between perfect and perfectly imperfect. It’s really the energy and emotion that’s being recorded, it’s that human feeling that brings warmth to the track.”
Brandon pulls his inspiration from everything that he listens to… whether it be The Bealtles, Death Cab for Cutie, Taylor Swift, Drake, The Early November, Adam Melchor, or Billie Eilish, just to name a few.
