Davide Zeta: Frozen in Time
Eclectic artist, composer, singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, Davide Zeta has his roots into funk and soul music growing up as the son of '80s singer Jay Rolandi (Firefly, Co.Ro.)
Formed in Italy and Spain as a classical percussion player he first toured Europe playing in symphonic orchestras as timpanist.
His desire to find his own way of expression and his restless spirit pushed him to always seek for new projects and collaborations.
As solo performer, in duo with piano or with other percussionists, in trio or as member of percussion ensembles Davide performed in Italy, Spain, Israel and Japan, even holding masterclasses as percussion professor. In 2015 he even started to compose for percussion and other classical instruments too.
By the way his favorite ones are Marimba and Vibraphone with whom he started covering pop songs too.
He now brings all his musical expertise and influences into his pop original creations, writing lyrics that up until now are focused on particular emotions or states of mind.
His debut single Shout, first written for voice and piano, was published in 2021 and arranged for voice and synthesizers thanks to the help of his colleague Akufene Noise.
"This version enhances the concept of man alienation from nature and it also describes the overwhelming facet of modern and technological society."
Lyrics have brooding verses with a liberating and passionate chorus.
"I wrote Shout in 2018 but never thought that what I was feeling in the air at the time would have gotten so real just a few years later. The urge to express out loud what is happening around us is now overwhelming."
"Shouting what we feel, communicating becomes essential for our health but above all it's important in order not to make us regress as a community. A community that must remain free to express itself.
As an artist I wanted to express this message with "Shout" and I hope it can wake up, encourage, inspire other people to do the same"
"I didn't want to appear in the video but I wanted to better convey my song message so I asked the artist Marco Brancato to create an animated lyric video for Shout"
In April 2022 Frozen in Time was released.
We then begin to discover the interesting features that Zeta can add to a pop song.
Percussion instruments such as Vibraphone, Hang Drum and Darabuka replace the piano, guitar and drums we are used to hearing everyday and at the same time these new instruments give more meaning to the core message of the song.
Frozen in Time describes the impasse situation in which many people find themselves. Inability to move forward even though Time moves on surely. Lack of motivation, society models imposition, past memories hold us back and this is something we need to get over with.
"One night I played two chords at the piano and waited for the first verse image to light up. After writing the lyrics I started thinking about the instruments to use that had to be metallic, cold, with a long breath to represent the impasse, the past, the memories in our mind. On the contrary the repeated tribal rhythm played underneath is representing the constant passing of Time."
