Dan Searl: "Hope"

Dan Searl: "Hope"

Many would say that music is the soundtrack to life. This bittersweet key is an element that Dan Searl has channeled in his last release and new single: “Hope”. Songs about the flaws of humanity may not always make the headlines but they are a part of our story and polarity as a society. Singer-songwriter Dan Searl has been busy making music for years with his solo projects and record label, Lit Honey Productions which produces many artists in the New England area.

“Similar to my last single, “Mistakes”, “Hope” starts with a driving guitar riff. “For me songwriting began with a guitar in my hand.” Searl says, “I had been working on some more percussive patterns like the “Hope” riff and I use a similar pattern on another single that’s coming later this year. I love the feeling of singing and playing this one because of the rhythm between the vocals and the guitar.”

Hope is a song is about finding peace in an industrialized world, seeing beauty in the dance of life, and always looking at the glass as half full. With elements that express humanity in the production(the
foley of kids playing in the streets, police sirens, and other sounds) this song invokes the allure of imperfection. The percussive guitar riff and poetic lyrics drive this acoustic pop track.

“Hope” was originally a winner in the Pop Category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2019. The song is written in a crossover manner. The structure of the vocals calls upon the standard verse-oriented folk approach yet the modern production and driving dance beat keep it radio-relevant and feeling contemporary. After the song was chosen by the JLSC panel including the likes of George Clinton, Flea from RHCP, and Natasha Bedingfield to name a few.

“I’m really inspired by the amazing men and women of the past. We have to remember who we are as mankind and learn to treat others fairly. I wrote this song also because music has always been an important outlet for me. Especially during this year with all the social isolation music and the process of making records and tracks has been a home for me. These days I’m making music everyday which is such a blessing.” Searl adds.

“We create the melody of our life with our daily routine and lifestyle. I grew up always trying to find a way to blend work with play. I imagine walking down the street in Boston when I hear this song seeing litter and trash on the ground yet being thankful to live and enjoy living in such an awesome city like Boston where I would often walk on Boylston and Massachusetts avenue while I was attending Berklee College of Music.” Searl adds.
