Interview: Static Headz

Ruthlessly crashing the boundaries of metal and hip-hop in a unique and innovative way, this Nu-metal six piece from Nashville, Tennessee is on a mission to leave their mark on the head-banging community. Fortifying their distinctive sound with heavy guitar riffs, syncopated percussion, and over-the-top double-timed lyrics, Static Headz brings a fresh take on the blending of multiple genres to the table.

Static Headz formed in 2015 with a few rotating members over the course of a couple years until finally solidifying their lineup consisting of vocalist Kevin Greer, vocalist Zach Noonan, drummer Matt Crook, bassist Deckard Elder, and guitarist Cody Lafever in order to record their self-titled debut record in 2021. Before the release of the record, the band added guitarist Jacob Kline to the line up. Citing direct influences from Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, Fire from the Gods, I Prevail, and Bring me the Horizon, this is only the beginning of what Static Headz has to offer.

We recently had the pleasure of checking in with Static Headz and they were kind enough to answer a few interview questions.

Hello Static Headz! Thanks for being here!

Thanks for having us!

What has been the biggest "pinch me" moment of your career thus far?

It may not seem like much, but releasing our debut record has been really, really cool for us to see. We worked so hard on it for so long and it's more a relief that it's finally available for everyone to listen to. It seemed like it was never going to be released, so when we finally released it, it brought us enormous gratification.

What could you give a 40-minute presentation on without any preparation beforehand?

The evolution of the endless genres of rock and metal and the way it's expanded and evolved over the years.

Top 3 things on your bucket list as a band…

1. Get signed

2. Do a collaboration track with Mike Shinoda

3. Play to an endless sea of people at a festival that know our music

Is there a song you would like to cover? If so, what song?

Yes, we plan on covering 'In the End' by Linkin Park when we get around to playing live shows again. Linkin Park is our biggest influence and we love paying homage to our heroes.

Tell us about this latest album 'Static Headz' thematically, what seems to pop up over and over?

The music is pretty all over the place. If anything tends to pop up on multiple occasions, it'd have to be hip-hop/rap inspired verses, with melodic rock inspired choruses. This happens with most of our songs, with a few exceptions of course. All of our songs revolve around influences from rock, metal, and hip-hop.

What is inspiring you right now?

As far as musically, Bring me the Horizon has always been one of our biggest influences, and they are always putting out incredible material. Wage War is another band that puts out incredible music and is quite inspiring to listen to.

Name a genre of music that you've never done but would love to dive into?

Maybe piano rock such as Coldplay or Keane. We have one piano heavy track on our record, 'Embrace', which came out great and we really enjoyed making that track.

Please tell our readers how to stay up to date with you and your latest moves!
