Lucas Harmon: "Something Sweet"
Lucas Harmon wrote Something Sweet to capture the experience of being someone who is so focused on the future that it can be hard to appreciate and take in the present. The song also focuses on the pressure he feels to work towards the things he dreams to accomplish and how certain sacrifices must be made to move forward “And by the time that I say goodbye well i’m afraid i’ll miss my shot”. The goal of writing Something Sweet was to capture the feeling of coming to the hard realisation that it is time for a massive change in ones life.
Lucas wrote the song prior to entering his junior year of high school. He notes finding himself to be quite happy with his life during this time period, but nonetheless he was still experiencing intense anxiety during this time and didn’t quite understand why. “Well I’ve got something sweet and I deserve the right to be here, but I know that I can’t stay here very long”.
