MHUD: "Cheval de Bataille"
The new single of MHUD “Cheval de Bataille” (War Horse) is impressive work, impressive writing, With influences from Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, and Nine Inch Nails among others, MHUD achieves the feat of finding a truly original "place" in the current soundscape - just for that, for this freedom, I take my hat off to him. It is all the more impressive since there is no desire here to overplay, to impress, to hit hard. It "hits hard" quite naturally, thanks in particular to this very impressive vocal presence, with a little cynicism, detachment in words, at the same time as a good dose of emergency. The French blog Baron Mag calls it “John Zorn meets Serge Gainsbourg in a perfect melange of sex, violence, and poetry”. Cowabunga!
