Pink Cliffs: Homework Forever
Pink Cliffs is the alt rock/psych pop band of London-based Si Miller. The new single ‘Homework Forever’ dropped on 29th May, hot on the heels of the frantic ‘Never Gonna Make You Mine’.
The atmosphere created by this psychedelic crooner is inky-black and cinematic: spaghetti western bass plucks and guitar twangs hang from loping off-kilter drums. All drenched in swirling reverb.
Stuck in a dark corner of your mind. Trapped in a nightmare. The interminable sensation of… bureaucracy. A song about helplessness in a diabolical scenario: Homework… Forever.
The plaintive sound of a wafting saxophone adds to the inevitability of it all: the sense that this is a struggle that has gone on… Forever.
2024 will see Pink Cliffs release a flurry of singles culminating in the vinyl release of debut LP ‘Long Shadows’.
Recalling the minor keys of Queens of the Stone Age, and the pop sensibilities of Connan Mockasin, Pink Cliffs’ music is connected by a search for beauty through isolation, reflecting on the remarkable nature of reality and the everyday when seen clearly, without filters. Layered sounds, distorted vocals and looping riffs create a textured sound that shifts from swamp blues to R&B, 80s pop and thick, dreamlike octave harmonies.
Pink Cliffs have been one of Tom Robinson’s ‘FreshOnTheNet’ Eclectic Picks, with airplay by Del Osei-Owusu on Islington Radio (‘This is so cool, this is so catchy. Check this one out’), AmazingRadio, CISM 89.3FM in Montreal, NTS Radio & some great Modern Psychedelia & Indie Spotify playlists. With reviews from Obscure Sound, Last Day Deaf, We Love Lo-Fi #2, London Cafe & Keep It Rock.
Si’s last band Hot Fiction released two albums; receiving air play on BBC Radio 6 Music, Tom Robinson’s BBC Introducing Show and Absolute Radio; played shows with Art Brut, Valerie June and Django Django; and had songs licensed by Dior and Brixton Motorcycles.
