Sarah Reiwitch: "Earthbound"
Sarah Reiwitch is inspired to create songs by all the moments of joy, ecstasy, heartbreak, and grief that she passes through. Sarah draws inspiration from her varied background of musical influences, from 70s folk/rock to modern indie-folk to Brazilian music. Sarah is often likened to Joni Mitchell for her exploratory guitar style, alternative tunings, soulful vocals, and intensely personal lyrics. In addition to Joni, Sarah cites Adrianne Lenker, Julia Jacklin, Brandi Carlisle, and Cássia Eller as artists she resonates with. Sarah is a multi-instrumentalist who creates music on the piano and acoustic guitar, then layers on other instruments. Sarah has a background in Brazilian percussion and dance, which she studied for nearly a decade. As well as singing and dancing, Sarah is also a published poet. Before the pandemic, Sarah played her original music at open-mic and a number of festival stages in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Sacramento, California. Sarah released two original songs last year and has been writing about one new song per week since then.
Earthbound is Sarah’s debut EP. Earthbound takes you from the deep ocean blue all the way past Saturn’s moons to reflect on our human experience. From dating a “Digital Angel who fell from a pixel sky” and wondering if we’re all just stuck in a computer simulation to realizing that everything slips “Back to the Earth” Earthbound is a wild, beautiful ride! Sarah wrote this collection of songs as a means of survival through a series of devastating losses, including her beloved father and her long-term partner, also to express the exciting life-giving passion of a wonderful new relationship.
