Songs for Sabotage: "Phantom"
Songs for Sabotage make their escape in their new song “Phantom”
Songs for Sabotage is a Post-Pop duo from Southern California by way of NYC. Their latest single “Phantom” is what they describe as a “dreamy, shoegazing soundtrack to an escape”, and while that’s a good description, it doesn’t quite capture just how nostalgic and becoming this song truly is.
Any music fan can testify that there are certain songs that seem to transcend and transport you as the listener—they take you somewhere far away. “Phantom” does just that. And it’s fitting, because the song was written from the duo’s separate but shared experiences of former dark times and toxic relationships.
In the words of their guitarist Richey Rose, “Phantom describes the moment you realize the relationship doesn’t serve anything, and you’ve essentially trapped yourself. The lightbulb’s gone off and you’re like, ‘okay, I need to GTFO now!’ ... from that second on it’s about leaving the past behind, both physically and mentally.”
Beyond the lyrics and inspirations, the song sonically carries all the intangibles you look for—the magic. It’s destined for a play-on-repeat legacy. Check out Songs for Sabotage’s new single “Phantom” and watch their new music video below.
