Summer Payton: "Young and Free"
24-year-old Summer Payton is set to turn 25 on December 25th of this year. To commemorate her golden birthday she will drop her first EP entitled Golden Hour, a term that photographers use to denote the perfect time of day where the sun is in the perfect place for photos. For Summer, her golden birthday is the perfect time to drop her first complete body of work. A perfectionist, over the years she has continued to record great music but not releasing because of feedback from professors and industry execs to first increase her social media presence, fan and follower base so that she would have a built in audience for her music. But with the current state of the world and the realization that tomorrow is not promised, Summer has decided to wait no more. Although Golden Hour has some of the best new music Summer has done in her career, she thinks it’s important for her fans and supporters to see her growth. So she is embarking on a campaign called “The Road To 25” by releasing a previously unreleased single on the 25th of every month starting with Young and Free, dropping May 25th. Young and Free was produced by her fellow NYU Tisch School of the Arts - Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music alumni, Austin Crute at the end of their freshman year. The song was written by both Austin and Summer based on the feeling and idea that they had made it through their first year at NYU and could now enjoy their summer being young and free. It is an uptempo pop/r&b infused track that showcases Summer’s intricate melodies, harmonies and background vocals recorded when she was 18. Summer Payton is an r&b/soul singer, songwriter, musician and producer from Chicago, IL, now residing in Los Angeles. Her musical influences include Brandy, Janet Jackson, Tweet, Missy Elliott and Alicia Keys. When she’s not creating and performing music, she works as a studio engineer.
