Widen: "Box of LIfe"
Widen is a one man project, consisting of elaborating music, based on retro-looking videos, b&w silent era or vintage 70’s and 60’s vibe with a psychedelic touch in the process of the sound textures. Edwin Andermyr, songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, has taken 3 years to produce this album in his bedroom, located in Stockholm, Sweden.
Widen draws his inspiration from bands like The Growlers as well as Mace DeMarco, MGMT and Ariel Pink to say a few. Making music since 2010 in a bedroom environment, Widen wants to please his audience and let them enjoy the different waves of colors, sounds, and noises, reverbs, delays and distortions that have been required to please your senses.
Widen has just released his first album “Box of Life”. After celebrating his debut single Same Self in November 2018 last year. Widen continues his trip to garage and vintage rock with a very electric album with various vibes in each song. With the help of the beloved sound engineer and sound designer/musician Alexander Heige (Pixie Machine), Widen has mastered his album with his help and fully arranged and mixed it all by himself.
The mood of “Box of Life” is mostly Californian Vibes and Surfy Sounds. It’s cheesy and smooth. Calm and experimental on few tracks like Future Love or Eternity. People in general would call this style Indie Rock or perhaps Bedroom Pop. However, we believe it shall be called Chill Rock.
Widen is mainly contemplating from his windows on rainy, snowy, and sunny days watching the seasons change and his mind slowly evolving with all the people he meet at least that is what he shared with us.
“Box of Life” is an album full of Interesting sound textures and cool vibes. The title track is a very personal song that according to Widen “has been inspired by a woman of the streets, that yet doesn't seem to have much but in fact has so much more than a lot of us. It's about enjoying every simple things. Like the air we breath and the beautiful beauty of the world as it is. An insect crawling a leaf, a being opening up to a higher force, getting into a spiritual world.”
Widen believes that this track will set the tone of the album, even though every track has its different texture to it and character, Widen hopes that everyone will get their own interpretation of the song, reminding them of whatever feeling it makes them feel.
Widen is currently practicing live with fellow friends of his in Stockholm, Sweden, and they are planning on playing few songs from the record during 2020. Stay tuned for more information about Widen.
