Caesar of Cymatics: If it weren't for them...

Caesar Of Cymatics’ debut EP delves into an array of new sounds for the 17 year old songwriter from Manchester. The EP veers away from the idealisms and general consensus of his previous pop influenced tracks, in exchange for focus on darker themes that have been following him through his slow maturation into pre-adulthood. The EP being highly influenced by folk music such as Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Jeff Buckley to name a few gives a whole new perspective on his project and really takes a deep dive into his mind.

From the minimalist folk of Sons Of The Skyclock Sky, to the anthemic and stadium grandeur of Where Have You Gone? Caesar throughout this EP has not only focused on his experiences of maturation, but also the feelings of other people his age who are having the exact same existential and overwhelming thoughts which this release clearly brings to light. Loving and losing is a main focus for this EP with the cover art being a picture of his Grandmother and Great Grandmother and acting as a tribute for the recent losses of his Grandfather, pet cat Tiger as well as many other close friends, which he has recently experienced and is still coming to terms with.

Tom Clegg, otherwise known as Caesar in his act, is an up and coming 17 year old songwriter from Manchester. After releasing his first single in November 2022, “It’s Plain Knowing” at 15 years old, he has managed to amass a passionate and loyal online following and a deep connection between him and the local Manchester scene through word of mouth and his social media following. Working with local promoters such as ‘Scruff Of The Neck’ to put together highly attended gigs at Manchester Academy 3 and The Deaf Institute

Caesar has since taken on many different opportunities such as physical releases in the form of a sold out, limited edition compilation CD featuring official releases, demos and live performances. His first headline gig in February of 2024 at The Retro was a complete sellout and since then has returned to the Deaf Institute to play a sold out gig as well as playing his first gigs in Leeds and Huddersfield, both of which were in high attendance.

Caesar is clear on what he wishes for this EP to achieve in the landscape and what to expect from him for the remainder of 2024:

“It’s not like I’m out here trying to start anything new, I just want to create something interesting, no one does that anymore. Sure inspiration is fine, but the amount of streamlined copycats out there in the industry is astonishing and everyone feels like a one trick pony, this EP shows another side to me.

It takes me a while to become proud of what I make, but I really feel as though I’ve landed on something special here, for me at least, whether other people take it is up to them, but I can go away happy from this knowing that I’ve gotten exactly what I wanted.

It's only going to get better with my next single releases, the three planned have been taken remarkably well live and I’m excited to add these to my studio discography, everything I release has a different flavour to it and I quite enjoy that.”

The young songwriter still has many plans ahead of him, playing a set on the acoustic stage at Venture Fest on July 27th, an already high selling gig at The Retro supporting Crook On The Wall and has many singles lined up for the rest of the year and into 2024.
