Samfire: Don't Call Me Baby

Samfire: Don't Call Me Baby

A BBC Introducing ‘One To Watch’ of 2023, Samfire releases a transfixing tune for the summer. Don’t Call Me Baby is both meditative and fierce. A single that embraces independence as well as romance.

Don’t Call Me Baby is simultaneously a love song and an anti-love song. Its lyrics explore holding onto your identity when in a relationship, dismissing pet names. Still, Samfire appreciates how with just a ‘silent thought’, her partner can make her smile in the worst of times. The song opens with a classic groove for you to slip into. The production’s relaxed simplicity allows Samfire’s fierce lyrics steer focus. She will debut it live at Latitude Festival for BBC Introducing this summer

Talking about the new single, Samfire shares: “I wrote this song on a day where everything went wrong. Sat on the tube with a piercing headache, I saw a mother pick up something for her daughter and longed for someone to fix things for me. The song is about independence, recognising that the person I love can't solve my problems for me. But it appreciates how a 'silent thought' of them, a little reminder,  can help.”
