Fomies: Ominous Prominence

Fomies: Ominous Prominence

Swiss fuzz-rockers Fomies released their fifth album in the space of four years in November, entitled “Ominous Prominence” for Taxi Gauche Records, the Zurich-based label that has built up an excellent roster and reputation over recent years.

With the acquisition of a keyboard player, the Vevey-based quintet’s stylistic range has been considerably expanded from the grungy riffing of their early days. Already an intriguing part of their sound on last year’s “Sudden Lag”, synths and organs are now playing a more prominent role, partly by adding new textures, and partly by casually dropping in with a bout of quicksilver riffing.

According to their Spotify profile, Fomies is a garage-fuzz band “mainly inspired by obscure records badly recorded in weird places.”

Rattler highly recommends to edgy rock-lovers this band’s guaranteed loop-friendly sounds.
