Giulia Dabalà: Chew Toy
With “Chew Toy”, her first single since the release of her album ‘Gold’ in 2022,Giulia Dabalà delivers a bombastic and hypnotic track that fiercely criticizes the dominance of men’s anger in relationships, while calling out how women are often dismissed as "too emotional" when expressing their own. “Chew Toy” is a bold reclaiming of that anger, along with the power it holds, built on massive beats jam-packed with sonic subtleties.
As if to echo the eclecticism of her musical tastes, Giulia Dabalà surrounded herself with two producers from very different worlds for this track: Hook, known for his rap beats with Muthoni Drummer Queen and Murmures Barbares, and Ripperton, a producer from Lausanne withagreat attention to detail andremarkable finesse.
Born in Switzerland, Giulia Dabalà spent her entire childhood in Myanmar (Burma). At the age of 17, she began composing her first EP, “Voices”, using her voice as the only instrument used to create these songs. On stage she also often uses a loop station to confront organic rhythms with jazz-inspired harmonies and soulful melodies, creating a pop aesthetic.
