HAARA drops new single “Sommar”

by Jack Rush

Swiss band HAARA offers a repertoire between World Music with Psychedelic/Fusion shades. They’ve just released a new single “Sommar” meant to transport the listener to European landscapes, thanks to the Swedish word “Sommar,” which means summer.

Sommar is an atypical track compared to HAARA's previous releases, since the lyrics have been put front and center, much more so than in the band's previous releases. For those unfamiliar with it, you will be able to hear the sound of the fujara, a Czechoslovakian flute used by shepherds, with the distinction of being a harmonic instrument. In addition to the fujara you will be able to hear the transverse flute, played by Elizabeth Albert.

Despite the title suggesting summer, the song is meant to take the listener into the heart of autumn, with that beautiful low light throughout the day. The lyrics tell of a protagonist who sees summer fading away with the arrival of autumn, and she repeats the popular sayings passed down to her by her elders: those life-saving sayings (“Stay warm, keep the stove on”) from times when in Europe winter, heralded by autumn, had a different meaning because it was far more difficult to overcome than it is today. Although autumn has lost much of its somber aura in Europe today, the feeling of the “dead season” and the low, melancholy sunlight remain intact. It is a song about “autumn sickness,” that strange melancholy that affects many people during this season, and a love letter to summer. At the same time, Sommar's lyrics can be interpreted as a romantic song, in which there is a protagonist who keeps the fire of hope burning as she waits for her loved one to return.

HAARA - FUTURE PLANS

Following Sommar, more singles will be released over the coming months in preparation for the album “Bonfire.” For live activity, HAARA is planning several dates scattered between Ticino, Lombardy and French-speaking Switzerland. The 2025 calendar-events is being updated/increased and can be found on the band's website and Instagram page.
