Hen in the Foxhouse: Look Up
Hen in the Foxhouse Releases New Album ‘Look Up’
by Jack Rush
Hen in the Foxhouse’s debut full-length album, Look Up, is an exciting new chapter for Elena Krell. Krell brings a unique blend of deeply personal songwriting and striking vocals that come together to create something special.
The album features 13 tracks that mix a variety of musical styles. From the neoclassical string sounds of “The Birds” to the electro-pop vibes of the last few songs, Look Up offers a versatile yet cohesive listening experience. Krell’s vocal range is reflective of the journey of an artist, shifting effortlessly through different emotions and sounds from track to track.
Co-produced with multi-instrumentalist Ru Lemer, Look Up was written in both the Hudson Valley and Paris. What stands out on this album is the way Krell blends different styles without them ever feeling out of place. The A-side of the album is lively and playful, with songs like "Johnny, Chris, and Ricardo," a track about moving on from a breakup. The B-sides take a more introspective turn, especially with tracks like “Nice Girl in Texas,” which explores the sadness of letting go.
With Look Up, Hen in the Foxhouse creates a fresh sound that blends personal storytelling with bold, inclusive themes. It’s an album about finding yourself, speaking up, and embracing the beauty of being different.
