Makichi: "The Rain Stopped"
Award-winning Strasbourg-residing duo, Makichi, released their reminiscence evading alt-indietronica album ‘The Rain Stopped’ on March 4th. It transcends meditative ambience and grooves right into the realms of downtempo psych. Singer-songwriter and composer Sonia Kelichadi’s vocals carry the same arcane air of a 13th-century mystic into the concept album that explores the duo’s experience as Iranians living inside and exploring landscapes outside of Iran. Instrumentalist, composer and vocalist Ash succeeded in his quest to manifest music that combined culture; instead of merging and diluting it. Even the staunchly impious will feel closer to sanctity after hearing Makichi’s culturally-rich release which carries the soul of Persian music, the poetry of Iranian greats and the modernism of dark indie electronica.
Malichi explained “We chose poems written by great Iranian poets with amazing form and melodies that led us to where we wanted to go as composers. The album contains seven steps to reach enlightenment and redemption; our mission is to bring a new level of feeling for those who listen. “
About Makichi The duo consists of Farshad Khoshnoud (aka Ash) and Sonia Kelichadi, and formed in 2015 in Iran. In 2016, their debut album, ‘Running from Exhaustion’, was born. As the son of a well-known Iranian composer, Ash soon found an interest in music and picked up violin and guitar at age 12. By age 19, he started to work with underground rock bands. After graduating from Iran Conservatory, he studied Film Making at London SAE before heading back to Iran to start his music career. His first instrumental album released in 2013. Sonia was born in Strasbourg, France, to an Iranian family who also supported her creative endeavors; she started playing Tar at age 16, 13 years later, she started to sing professionally. In 2015, she met Ash and worked with him in defiance of the Islamic limitations which prevented her from using her voice to sing. After marrying, they relocated to Strasbourg in 2017 and released an award-winning EP in 2019 which was recognised by Global Music Awards and Independent Music Awards.
