Matilda Lindell: "Money, Money, Money" feat. Riltons Vänner
Swedish born Matilda Lindell brings nordic melancholy blended with American country-pop for a distinguished sound that can only be described as captivating, earnest and unforgettable. She brings incredible relatability to her songs through her velvet voice and raw lyrics.
Her passion and musicality has taken her to venues such as the prestigious Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the gorgeous Wolf Trap Performing Arts Centre outside of Washington D.C, performing as one of the principal singers in the tribute act “ABBA THE CONCERT”.
On the occasion of the release of her new video “Money, Money, Money” we had the opportunity to check in with her and she was kind enough to answer a few interview questions:
Welcome Matilda! You released your new video for, “Money, Money, Money” on Friday! Congrats! What does this song mean to you?
- Thank you! I've been performing with an international touring ABBA tribute for over a decade, so this song has been part of my repertoar for quite some time :) The audience always loves it! And if you really listen to the lyrics, it has a deeper message, very current for today.
You collaborated with the Swedish a cappella group “Riltons Vänner” It looks like you guys had a blast! How was that experience?
- They are amazing to work with! I was actually a part of this group for many years before moving from Sweden to the US. I've been fortunate to do a few features with them since I left and when I asked them if they wanted to do this project with me, they were very enthusiastic! It was fun to make our version of "Money, Money, Money" and portray the message with voices and lots of humour :)
How did you get into ABBA’s music?
- Well as a Swede, ABBA is part of my culture. But I accidently stumbled on an audition for an ABBA tribute band while studying at the Royal Music College in Stockholm. The band rented space there to hold auditions for new lead singers. So it was not really planned at all, but luckily I got the job! I feel fortunate to have gotten so close to these intimate lyrics, well crafted melodies and catchy disco tunes.
If you could dedicate this video to anyone, who would it be?
- If I would dedicate it to anyone in particular I guess it would be to the people who sometimes need to be reminded to smell the roses instead of the dollar bills.
