Minev: Hold On
London-based electronic music artist Minev drops his latest single Hold On
Hold On has been mined from deep within the well of human emotions. Minev has crafted a dark and poignant composition which manages to plant a seed of optimism after taking listeners on a journey through hurt, succour and healing.
The sparse instrumentation and brooding piano form the perfect accompaniment to a vocal that is both gentle and powerful at the same time. The lyrics ring through clearly, and hit hard.
It is a song that would be a fitting companion to a reflective reverie in the solitude of one’s bedroom yet, it would also hold its own played as a pop ballad on daytime radio.
With its gentler musical aesthetic and guest female vocals, Hold On showcases a new side to Minev’s musicianship whilst staying true to his distinctive emotive electronic sound with lush synth arpeggios, big reverbs and drum breaks.
“I wanted to create a song that was raw and honest, and one which I hope will be a source of comfort for people going through a hard time. The song’s theme of ‘holding on through the night’ was inspired by memories I have of being ill as a child at night-time and waiting for daybreak, when everything suddenly feels better. That felt like a good analogy for emerging stronger and wiser after living and working though difficult emotions.” - Minev
Statistician by day, producer by night – Minev’s love of making electronic music has been a constant presence in his life. His passion for composing can be traced back to his teens when he would lose track of time in his school’s music studio and get accidentally locked in by the caretaker. Nowadays, Minev fits his creative project around spending time with his children and his maths-centred day job. Some do say that music is maths after all… but his compositions also pack in a tonne of emotion alongside meticulously crafted breakbeats.
London, the adoptive home of Minev is also the inspiration behind his emotive but danceable electronic sound, whilst his Bulgarian cultural upbringing can also be felt amongst his releases. The result is an artistic mix that makes his music just as suited for playing through headphones whilst walking aimlessly through the city, as it is for being played in smoke-filled dance floor spaces.
