STPH.: “Pluie d'été”

STPH.: “Pluie d'été”

STPH. (pronounced 'steph'): behind this name-logo hides an atypical indie pop duo made in Brussels. Here, modern textures and 80's pop reminiscences (etienne daho, rita mitsouko) meet and mate without any complex. Behind their sometimes frank, often bored smiles, Aurore and JS disguise and de-dramatise the existential questions that inhabit them. In song, the industrial areas that were devastated in their childhood become a source of wonder, and the exploration of the social codes of their surroundings an outlet.

“Pluie d'été”, the eponymous track of STPH’s first EP, is a carefully crafted electropop song, filled with beautifully designed tones and subtle glitches. It is imbued with softness, combined with a sense of adventure. The song structure is atypical but still very accessible.
