Elica, Leeds-based DIY electronica and IDM producer, has a background in improvisational piano. Drawing inspiration from jazz and underground dance music, Elica captures the essence of her rural and urban surroundings through melodic textures, dance-music rhythms, and organic layers. Track 2 from her debut 2-track EP, Papillon, was crafted by re-sampling electric pianos played on the Yamaha YC. The track narrates a caterpillar-to-butterfly transformation, reflecting the theme of Elica unveiling her work. Papillon establishes a foundation for releases with its deep four-by-four dance rhythm, intricately woven with melodies and percussion. Visualizing Papillon involved collaboration with visual artists for the album artwork and an upcoming videoTrack 1, Happy Tears, encapsulates emotions of heartbreak and euphoria, highlighting an inner emotional struggle. This features melodic elements created with the MicroKorg complemented by a percussion-driven garage beat that a distinctly sound.
