Anthony Byrne: "Chasing"

Anthony Byrne: "Chasing"

After months of soul-searching and self discovery, Irish musician and producer Anthony Byrne has emerged from lockdown with a liberating song about identity, freedom and the perpetual search for happiness in artificial highs.

Originally from Donegal but now based in Limerick, the singer and songwriter has spent much of the past year facing a reality deprived of the vices of modern-day life. In his search for freedom in a world turned upside down, the talented musician embarked on a journey of self-realisation embodied in a powerful downtempo, electronic track, and undoubtedly his best work to date.

‘Chasing’ was written, produced and performed by Byrne himself and is a jam-packed track full with thoughtful melodies and anecdotal accounts of his struggle with identity and mental health. The lo-fi inspired track touches on the taboo topics of sex, drugs, alcohol and religion, and their artifical existence in the life of a queer man in search of spiritual liberty.

Byrne, who is a music technology and production graduate from Limerick Institute of Technology, pours his very soul into his latest release, which emanates colourful electronic synth waves and profound messages in an authentic three-minute masterpiece bound to resonate with fans.

While many of us are doomed to spiral down a vortex of vices and artificial highs, Byrne is here to lift us from the depths of despair with ‘Chasing’ and its sonical quest of spiritual enlightenment.

The Irish singer finds inspiration from fellow compatriot Sinead O’Connor but also draws influences from the likes of Amanda Palmer, Leonard Cohen as well as the indie-electronic sounds of Deptford Goth and mainstream pop queens, Lorde and Robyn.

With ‘Chasing’ set to hit local and international airwaves, Byrne adds to his growing collection of hits, including singles ‘Red Footwear’ and ‘Fly’.

The best has yet to come for the Irish singer and songwriter, who through his sonic journey of self-discovery, has discovered a sense of heightened liberty through the power of music.
