Fauna: "Didn't Wanna"
Manchester Indie Alt-Rock four-piece Fauna recently released their fourth single, “Didn’t Wanna” to remind listeners that life wasn’t always utopic when we had unlimited freedom to drink expensive pints and stand awkwardly on dancefloors.
Didn’t Wanna veers away from the archetypal Manchester sound but still kept plenty of the sonic furore offered by hometown jangle-pop icons. The anthemic track also carries nuances of 70s rock, psych and influences from Kings of Leon, Peace, Foals and the Strokes.
Their impassioned indie tracks run with a flood of unbridled energy, making it easy to get swept up in the currents led by their contemporary, captivating rhythms. Fauna may take a critical view lyrically, but their music never fails to bring the euphoria.
Fauna said: “Didn’t Wanna was written over lockdown when we all wanted to go for a pint to find a fragment of joy in the situations we naturally recall as good times, but in reality, they never lived up to expectation.
The single encapsulates being surrounded by people and wanting nothing more than to go home. We cheered ourselves up by recounting these nights. The song was just about having some fun; all we could do over the past year was rehearse and write new music, so the few nights a week we were able to do so, we made sure we enjoyed it.
We even brewed our beer, Didn't Wanna IPA, to coincide with the release and to be enjoyed whilst listening to the track!”
About Fauna
The founding members of Fauna are brothers Adam (guitar) and Danny Williams (guitar and vocals). They introduced themselves to the music industry by playing cover gigs, but they soon found the inspiration to find their signature sound and tell their own stories.
After recruiting Thomas Pine (drums) and Charlie Howarth (bass), their line-up was complete. Their sound started to spill out of Manchester’s grassroots mecca, Brunswick Mill, through their 2020 debut single, Talk to Me, and their live tour dates. Post lockdown, Fauna is eager to reach bigger crowds and release brand-new material, such as their forthcoming single, Ride the Night.
So far, accolades have poured in from Radio X and BBC Introducing Lancs. Based on the infectiously catchy hooks in Didn’t Wanna, that is only the beginning for Fauna.
