Swiss-based Martha's Laundry has recently released "The Legacy". The synth-pop duo of Marco Jeitziner (vocals) and Joas Häfliger (synth)., which next year will celebrate 15 years of presence on the Swiss music scene, denounces with this song the problem of climate change and wonders what will be left to future generations. The song follows the previous "Empty Nation", with references to sounds and worlds dredged up from the '80s - notably Depeche Mode-like - but with electronic production.
On the creative process behind “The Legacy”, Jeitziner explains "We always challenge ourselves by creating music, but in this case it was less cumbersome because now it's just me and Joas, before there were other elements and we didn't use electronics. But creating synths, a melody line, lyrics and arrangements doesn't happen in a day. That said, it's a pretty simple and catchy track. Right?"
And on the political nature of the lyrics Jeitziner commented "Yes, it's "political" in the sense that it touches on a specific theme, but really everything is political, even love or toilet paper. Obviously not, a song can't do anything, but it can help people to think (provided they speak English), to have some moments of serenity, I'm thinking of the stressed out drivers, those who are alone at home and want to dance. Who knows, maybe "The Legacy" in twenty years will be an environmental anthem?".
