The Moontown Project: "Moon Honey"
The Moontown Project is Will Swain-Smith on guitar & lead vocals and Guy Molony on keys, bass & lead vocals. From their Hyde Park basement studio, they have won over BBC Introducing: London, Amazing Radio, Hoxton Radio, Independent Music Newsband Soundwave Magazine with their eclectically enlivening grooves.
COVID-19 dented the lockdown-born Leeds/London-based duo’s ability to perform live, but in previous projects, they graced the stages of Scala, Brixton Jamm, Amersham Arms, 02 Academy Islington, Camden Assembly, Troubadour amongst many others.
The Leeds/London-based Alt-indie electronica duo have just released their latest eclectically layered single, ‘Moon Honey’. Their synth-led single carousels around the warmer end of the tonal palette while keeping cross-genre experimentation at its core. Following the same genre-melding tendencies as the likes of Gorillaz and MGMT, Moon Honey oozes mainstream indie appeal while allowing elements of house, techno and electronic funk to occupy the soundscape.vThe roguishly sweet vocals stay on the right side of salacious as they play withvlyricism influenced by artists such as King Krule, The Pixies and Baxter Drury;vticking yet another box for dynamism.
The band explains “Moon Honey is simply a construct personifying a regrettable, yet enormously fun decision. The single was inspired by the disco sounds of the 70s and 80s and artists such as Jocelyn Brown and Sister Sledge, merged with more modern takes on funky sounds, under the influence of artists such as Jungle and Parcels with their synth heavy, spacey riffs and grooves.”
