The Immaculate Crows: Van Gogh

The Immaculate Crows: Van Gogh

The Immaculate Crows charted a journey through self-rediscovery through the post-punk-meets alt-country single, Van Gogh

Brisbane’s most mesmerising alternative outfit, The Immaculate Crows, fronted by the riff originator and philosophically profound singer-songwriter, Bruce Neilsen, reached the crowning point of their career with their seminal single, Van Gogh.

So much more than a vignette of the tortured artistic soul, the parabalistic single explores how easy it is to lose yourself and allow your soul’s blueprint to become illegible.

Jessica Shipley’s lead vocals resound through the dark alt-country aesthetic of the single with all the commanding glamour of Christian Death, while Daphne Mae rounds out the harmonies with ethereal soul and Wayne Harvey’s brashy, garage rock adds another dynamic to the Echo and the Bunnymen meets Jefferson Airplane-esque atmosphere, illuminated by Bruce Neilsen’s hypnotically evocative guitar work.

Van Gogh was released on all major streaming platforms on June 2023 also features on The Immaculate Crows’ sophomore LP, Zombie World.

The Immaculate Crows said: “The single was inspired by the tortured artist Vincent Van Gogh; as the single came to fruition, I integrated disparate themes of ageism, false friends and charlatans. The single is completely open to personal interpretation, but the main underpinning is a narrative of attempting to rediscover yourself through finding spirituality, a special someone or something and eventually ‘coming out of the wilderness’.”
