Young Smart: "Wampakacha"

Young Smart: "Wampakacha"

Wampakacha is a song by artist Young Smart, produced by Alvinos Zavlis.

The song started in Alvinos’ home studio in Gillingham, UK during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown. Alvinos needed to work on some music that felt different than his usual, dark electronic stuff. He was inspired by the Cuban dance of Salsa and the vibrant summer party culture of his native country Cyprus, which he really yearned for.

The instrumental was done in pretty much a day and, being too good to just sit on a hard drive, Alvinos sent it to good friend and frequent collaborator Young Smart for vocal ideas. Young Smart responded immediately to the sound and sent vocal stems that he recorded in Nairobi, Kenya two days later. He added the necessary soulful character needed for the record to reach new heights, as well as his signature African spirit. The song also features backing vocals by Susan Wangari. Alvinos also recorded his roommate’s accordion for the song.

Wampakacha is about a beautiful young lady who manages to get Young Smart’s attention. He ends up offering anything to get her. It is described by the duo as the perfect summer song.
