Celiane the Voice: "Systematic"

Celiane the Voice: "Systematic"

We had the pleasure to check in with Celiane the Voice and she was kind enough to answer a few interview questions.

Welcome, Celiane the Voice! It’s great to have you here! We love Systematic - tell us what the story is behind this song?
Thank you. I looked at what is going on in society right now. The opposing sides in politics, the hate, the fear; the facts versus fiction with Covid.  The fight for people to be heard, the need to share space with others and have their feelings validated.  It is a hard time right now but it is not impossible.  I wanted a song to let people know that they are not alone, that their feelings are valid and that just because we have differences of opinions we can still get along.  We don't need to give into the system of hate and the perception of fear that has been created for us to keep us bound.  No.  We are to be love. We are to love one another and we are to be stronger than what we have become.  Everyone is love.

If you could collaborate with any artist this year, who would it be?
I would really love to collaborate with Daft Punk on a song.  I love their creations and I love how their music has grown over the years.  When they created the music for Tron Legacy, that did it for me. I loved everything about it. Working with them would be a dream come true for me.  There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with.  Herbie Hancock is another that I would absolutely be floored to work with because his music was innovative when he came out but people didin't know how to take it.  Much like how many respond to me and I love it!

Do you have plans for a full album release at some point?
I am a lover of the idea of mini albums.  We are in the time where singles are paramount because fans have access to so many points of music and to their artists that they don't want to wait. Though I still create quality, I want to create my stories.  I want to portray mini masterpieces that are cohesive with what I do on stage and deliver a definite message.  I am working on that now.  My first mini-album.

What inspires your music?

What inspires my music is sound of different manipulations of soundwaves and technology.  Science. Sometimes when I create my pieces and then work them through with my executive producer, I can see the technology of the waves and the sound creates strong impulses.  When I hear dubstep, for example, I feel the mechanization of humanity through technology in those notes and how to move and how to flow at times.   As mech, dubstep and electronica give me my science; strings and operatic elements give me my spirit.  Technology has a spirit of it's own that we don't recognize but it vibrates with us and away from us.  That is why I am a technohuman.  My music goes hand in hand with that.

When you write new music - do you write the lyrics first? What is your process like?
There have been plenty of times I have created lyrics first and there are times I have created the music first.  For "Systematic", the music was created first.  I wasn't going to put lyrics to it. I had no idea what to do with it, and that is why it has been 5 years in the making. But then I was challenged to put lyrics to it, I did.  I had to sit long and hard to know what to say. I wrote the lyrics, I'd leave them, and then go back weeks later and see how well they sat with me.  I changed the lyrics a lot until the right words came out.  Writing lyrics is an art form for me. There are times when I can write a song in 5 min and there are other times when it takes months. It just has to be right for me and it has to be my words. Otherwise, I have no connection to the song.
