Jaz Clemente: "Just This"
From Tijuana border-child turned Oakland activist, mover, and multi-instrumentalist, Nemo C, comes a fusion sound that evokes warmth and retro feels. At first sound, one gets organic Latin psychedelia, brazilian rhythms, ethereal synths & 70's soul and funk grooves wrapped around lyrics about self-love, social justice, and collective positive transformation.
Growing up in the border region of Baja California, fully immersed in the duality of a Mexican upbringing permeated with American pop culture weaved with a life long practice of the Brazilian martial art for liberation, Capoeira, Nemo has crafted a sound that borrows from Rock en Espanol, Jazz Fusion, Samba, and Soul.
After years of playing at wedding gigs, becoming a full time college mathematics professor, and almost abandoning his guitar, Nemo's desire to express himself and create unique sounds broke through to the forefront. In 2016, Nemo launched a Kickstarter campaign to record his first album and the following year released his first EP, and with this, began his chosen path as an artist. Since his debut, Nemo has had over 10 new releases, over 80k streams, collaborations with other Bay Area artists, all while simultaneously developing his career as a social justice digital organizer.
The music of Jaz Clemente takes a listener through the chants from the world of Capoeira and salsa, the warm chords of Bossa Nova, the rhythms of funk, the drive of house, and the words of liberation and self-love. Nemo's songs are a reminder that music expresses a rich history of experiences, places, and struggles.
